Join district leaders from Boston Public Schools and Milwaukee Public Schools and experts from the Children & Nature Network as they share how cross-functional collaboration between facilities, design and curriculum teams has transformed schoolyards into dynamic, place-based learning environments.

Presenters will highlight their district-wide approaches to designing schoolyards with teaching and learning as a core priority, including educator-informed planning processes, standards for green infrastructure and outdoor learning features, teacher professional development, curriculum resources, and community partnerships that support implementation and long-term maintenance. Each district will offer both a facilities/design and educator perspective, demonstrating how coordinated investments in people, place and programming lead to equitable, scalable outdoor learning opportunities that enrich student learning and strengthen environmental stewardship.
